When I was 20 and rather obsessed with all things post-hardcore I stumbled across a band called Bear Vs. Shark. They had just released their second album Terrorhawk, and it quickly became one of my favourite records. I figured that since I lived in Australia I’d never get a chance to see them live. And then they promptly broke up anyway, so that was that. Fast forward 11 years. I now live in the US, and Bear Vs. Shark have decided to reform, tour, and re-release their two albums in a remastered double-record (P.s. It’s great, go get it immediately). I guess good things sometimes do come to those who wait. I got to see their show at Market Hotel in Brooklyn, and it was a fantastic sweaty, drunken, scream along circus. Modulo the death of multiple hi-hat stands they powered through about 2/3 of their catalogue while the front third of the room boiled, shouting along to every word. It lived up to everything I could have hoped for.
I recorded about half the set which you can check out below. The lighting was pretty rubbish, and the audio clips here and there so apologies for that, but at least you can feel the energy of the room.
